Scotscraig Golf Club – 200 years old this year!

One of the truly great Scottish golf courses Scotscraig is steeped in history and this year it is celebrating its 200th anniversary.

That makes it the 13th oldest golf club in the world- think about this for just a minute – there are over 34,000 golf courses in the world today so that in itself, makes Scotscraig a very special place for any golfer to visit.

Today I was delighted to play at Scotscraig with in their annual winter Texas Scramble – in our team we had 3 of my best golfing buddies and between us we have around 200 years’ worth of golfing experience – jings that nearly as much as this illustrious club itself.

I first played at Scotscraig in their Men’s Open in 1973 and have been going back regularly over the years and it is definitely one of my favourite golf courses (and I have played over 350 courses)

Scotscraig is very near to the Home of Golf in St Andrews and has played host to Open Championship Qualifying on a number of occasions. It is a wonderful and challenging golf course which plays very much like a links course especially in the summer when it becomes a “running course “when the pitch and run can be the order of the day.

My wife Fiona and I have run Morton Golf Holidays since 2004 and every year are delighted to send golfers to Scotscraig especially when they are staying in St Andrews. Not only do our clients love the golf course but are really impressed with the history which is very much in evidence on various display cabinets and boards in the clubhouse.

A warm welcome awaits you when you play Scotscraig and thanks to the team there for looking after us so well today and for your help in looking after our clients throughout the years.

I thought you might like to see my 3 lifelong golfing buddies who were part of the Morton Golf Team in today’s “Scramble “–this was taken on the 9th tee as Alan Wilson in the middle was about to launch a rather impressive 300 + yard drive. It also allows me to tell all of our clients from around the world about 2 well known Scottish golf phrases – Alan is suffering from “tammy ride up” as you can see his tammy (woolly hat) is sitting on the top of his head and not really keeping his ears warm !3 partners

Donald (on the left) is suffering from “twist tammy” and just can’t seem to keep that logo to the front.

Good luck to everyone at Scotscraig for your 200th anniversary celebrations and here is to the next 200!

If you are reading this piece and are planning a trip to Scotland this year or any time in the future be sure to ask us to add Scotscraig to your itinerary.
