Book of the Month
The Match by Mark Frost
Book review by Peter Craigon, Morton Golf Holidays
I have read over 400 golf books and I can say without any hesitation The Match is in my all time Top 10. In fact this book is so well written by Mark Frost that it is easy to imagine actually being in the crowd who were privileged to watch 4 of the world’s best golfers of the time playing this great match around Cypress Point in California. Frost captures the atmosphere perfectly and how wonderful to imagine what is must have been like to watch the legendary Ben Hogan team up with his old adversary Byron Nelson to play against the 2 best amateurs of the day in Harvie Ward and Ken Venturi. The fact that these guys birdied more or less EVERY hole and played some of the greatest shots ever seen means this may well have been the greatest match ever played. If you are a golf lover with even the slightest interest in the history of the game then I would recommend you read The Match. And the result of The Match – – well you will just have to read the book to find out who wins.
