Testimonials

There were four couples in our group (4 golfers and 4 non-golfers.) This effectively required two itineraries. Peter and Fiona were very responsive to our needs before and during our three week trip. The little extra touches, finding us Blair House a unique place to stay, arranging golf demonstrations and Fiona leading some shopping excursions.

Moray Golf Club - Lossiemouth

Moray Golf ClubWhere else could you follow in the footsteps of Old Tom Morris and Henry Cotton in the same day?

The old course is considered to be one of the finest links courses in Scotland. A classic links designed by Old Tom Morris with deep revetted bunkers, undulating gorse lined fairways and smooth fast greens. It is a superb test of golf with seven par fours over 400 yards.

Henry Cotton's preference for precision golf can be seen with the shorter but somewhat tighter new course with greens smaller than the Old but every bit as good, and equally challenging and rewarding.

Moray Golf Club is truly one of Scotland's gems, a fitting tribute to the artistry of Old Tom Morris and Henry Cotton and a must for golfers visiting the area.

Moray Golf Club was founded in 1889 and formally opened on 30th March of that year.

The Old Course was laid out by Old Tom Morris who became a frequent visitor and played a number of exhibition matches in the early years.

In these early years of Moray Golf Club, the membership included a number of distillers and the effects of their vision and foresight continue to be enjoyed by members to the present day.

These distiller members who had been laying down whisky since the formation of the club and in 1900 the club purchased one hogshead (54 Imperial gallons) of Glen Grant 1894 whisky at 7/6 per gallon, one of 1897 at 5/- and two of 1900 at 2/6.This practice continues to the present day and five or six hogsheads are bought annually and bottled for the club at ten years of age.

Glen Grant continued to be the "club malt" until 1992 when the club changed to "Macallan" having laid down hogsheads ofMacallan some years previously. Today's "club malt" is a 12 year old single malt.

The Old Course

The Old Course was designed by Tom Morris over 100 years ago. It truly is a great links with plenty of gorse and pot bunkers. Some holes allow you to throw the ball right up to the green whereas others require precise pitch and run shots - a great test of golf

Holes: 18 Yards: 6995 Par: 71 Type: Links

The New Course

Converted into 18 holes in 1979 by the late Sir Henry Cotton, the New Course is also a stern test of golf. Many of the holes run alongside the Old Course's holes and although it isn't as long, its tighter fairways and smaller greens make it an examining challenge.

Holes: 18 Yards: 6008 Par: 69 Type: Links
