Overall, my wife and I enjoyed Scotland, its beauty, greenery, people, Golf and its history. We loved the links course especially Prestwick, Royal Troon, Old Course, Carnoustie, New Course and Gleneagles, they were all simply too good to describe in words but a pleasure one will cherish to eternity. The Albany Hotel in St.Andrews had great hospitality and Home like feelings with sumptuous breakfasts. We enjoyed the face to face discussions we had with you and Fiona at diner in Scotts in Troon. You and your staff were outstanding, helpful and all the information we got was accurate and beneficial. We do like the personal touch that was evident in your services and makes days go by with lots of good memories and happy times.

Dec 2008 - Course of the Month - Crail Balcomie Links
Crail Balcomie Links
|
When you walk the splendid Balcomie Links, you are following in the footsteps of thousands of golfers over the last two centuries. As you do so, you will no doubt experience the same enjoyment as they did, for Balcomie is a beautiful course, not too long and full of interest with magnificent views of the sea from every tee.
Several of the fairways wind alongside golden sandy bays and rocky outcrops of the Firth foreshore. They come into play at the 2nd, 4th and Hell's Hole - the 5th, where you must make up your mind whether to carry the beach or take the east way round. |

|
You will love the challenge and no doubt take with you everlasting memories of the 13th and 14th. Like so many top courses, the last few holes will test you, but no matter how badly you fare, you will remember Balcomie as one of your finest days on any golf course.

A Golfing Gem
Originally, Society members played golf on a narrow strip of land at Sauchope, slightly closer to Crail (and of course to the Golf Inn which was then used as a clubhouse).
In 1895, golfing legend Old Tom Morris reported that Balcomie was very suitable for a golf course - "there is no better in Scotland" - and he laid out a nine hole course which was extended just four years later after a grand bazaar.
The course was fittingly named Balcomie Links, and has come to be recognised as one of Scotlands classics. |
